Offensive Dentistry Featuring Brian Novy, DDS

8:30 AM – 12:30 PM, 4 Credits

Let’s face it, sitting through a lecture about dental caries or caries risk assessment isn’t appealing (in fact it sounds downright boring). However, the science of clinical cariology is beginning to have an impact on restorative techniques and technology. Streptococcus mutans has more to fear than a rheostat, now

that we’re armed with salivary diagnostics and bioactive materials.

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Intervene medically in the caries process
  • Control patient caries risk with focused therapeutics
  • Design restorations to minimize recurrent decay
  • Improve the prognosis of restorative treatment

Dental Financial Planning: Turning Confusion Into Financial Freedom. (Bonus: Tax Updates!)

Featuring Wes Read, CPA, CFP

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM, No CE Credits

Dentists receive the training and knowledge to provide quality care for their patients, yet they are not usually equally trained in managing the financial aspects of the dental practice. Many dentists approach retirement age with little to show for decades of hard work. By following a dental-specific game plan, dentists can successfully organize and manage their dental practice more successfully to benefit their patients. Additionally, they can grow and retain more of their dental practice profits to accelerate their financial independence.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover a four-phase process for managing your business and personal finances holistically.
  • Understanding the value of your dental practice as an asset and why you should know its value.
  • Designing your monthly financial statements to tell a valuable story about your financial health.
  • Tax updates
  • Tax and financial planning strategies

About Wesley Read

Wes Read, CPA, CFP® is the founder and CEO of PracticeCFO, a financial planning and CPA firm specializing in dental practice owners. He has been working with dental practice owners since 2007 to help them effectively manage their taxes, 401(k), debt, student loans, business budgets, personal financial planning, investments, and retirement planning.

He is also the founder, CEO and Lead Platform Strategist of Practice Orbit, a centralized technology platform for dentists, dental brokers, and their service providers (CPAs, attorneys, bankers, etc.) to sell practices easily and efficiently. The system provides both sellers and buyers with the tools needed to facilitate a smooth transition. Sellers have either a 1) self directed selling option for only 2%, which gives them access to a buyer pool, technology, and a dedicated transition coordinator, or 2) a full-service model, which includes a dedicated, experienced agent for only 4-6.5% of the sale price (depending on the price). Associate dentists buying a practice pay nothing to Practice Orbit.

Earlier in his career, Wes had audited the financial statements of fortune 500 corporations during his employment at Ernst and Young LLP, the third largest accounting firm in the country.  After his time with Ernst and Young, Wes joined the wealth management division of Moss Adams Wealth Advisors LLC. He worked with some of the industry’s top thinkers in managing approximately one billion dollars of client assets.

Prior to his professional experience, Wes received a bachelor and master’s degrees, both in accounting from Brigham Young University; programs that are recognized in the top accounting schools in the nation.
